David M. Katz, PsyD Principal Partner
Dr. Katz has practiced psychology since 2010, beginning his career as an associate at the pre-existing Bloch, Purvis & Associates, PLLC and then becoming Principal Partner of East Louisville Psychology Group, PLLC in 2015. In addition to practicing psychotherapy in the private sector he has also taught in the doctoral education realm. He received his undergraduate degree in Psychology from Elon University in 2004 and his masters and doctoral degrees in clinical psychology from Spalding University in 2010 where he received the peer-nominated graduation hooding ceremony speech honor. Dr. Katz completed his predoctoral internship at Seacoast Mental Health Center in Portsmouth, New Hampshire with a concentration in psychodynamic-relational psychotherapy and psychodynamically informed assessment.
Dr. Katz sees adults, adolescents and couples. He specializes in an empirically validated psychodynamic-relational, integrative approach to psychotherapy. Current interests are the transtheoretical model of interpersonal neurobiology and its correlates with both psychodynamic-relational theory and practice, as well as the incorporation of mindfulness and contemplative techniques for therapeutic benefit. One guiding belief of his work with patients is that much of a person’s suffering and displeasure is the byproduct of building life strategies on the basis of an inaccurate and distorted view of self, others and the world, impounded by fears that are no longer appropriate to one’s adult self. Often times the patient will come to psychotherapy for a specific set of symptoms that are problematic, but that have (and may still) serve a function. Within the context of a therapeutic relationship, Dr. Katz aims to facilitate a corrective relational, emotional and mindful experience for the patient to better recognize one’s problems, understand their meaning(s) and to cope with and replace them with more helpful and authentic intra and interpersonal experience.
He provides psychotherapy for general clinical issues as well as offering therapy for specialized populations including PTSD and survivors of childhood trauma.
